Children and adolescents with trauma histories often have unique brain wiring and may function at varying developmental ages. Traditional consequence-based behavioral strategies frequently prove ineffective, potentially exacerbating trauma and straining relationships between children and the adults in their lives. This session will introduce trauma-responsive approaches designed to better understand and support children with trauma histories, fostering improved communication and stronger relationships. Strategies discussed will be particularly relevant for those impacted by in-utero trauma, such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), as well as trauma experienced post-birth. Specific behaviors like raging, lying, and stealing will be addressed with practical techniques. This session aims to shift perspectives and equip participants with tools to transform chaos into connection.
