Programs For Foster, Kinship & Adoptive Parents

Monthly Peer Support Group

A monthly support group that provides a safe place for foster, kinship, and adoptive parents to connect with their peers. Participants are encouraged to discuss the rewards and challenges of caring for children in foster care. The group is open to all foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, and legal guardians parenting children through the DC foster care system. Support groups occur on the 4th Wednesday on each month, at 6pm, unless it is a holiday.

Peer Mentoring Program

FAPAC recruits and trains up to 17 resource parents to serve as mentors to new incoming resource parents. Each mentor provides up to 100 hours of mentoring during the program year, to 1-4 mentees. Mentors receive a monthly stipend for mentoring, not to exceed $1,000 per year. Mentors are considered AmeriCorps members, and stipend is not considered income on their taxes. Our goal is to help onboard new resource parents and build a stronger and more knowledgeable community of care givers.

License Training

FAPAC provides 15 hours worth of accredited trainings to foster parents to be applied towards their license. Trainings include soft-skill building, behavior management, and CFSA policies.
