ADVOCACY
Individual Advocacy
We advocate for foster, kinship and adoptive parents as well as youth when they face challenges within the DC Child Welfare System. If you are having difficulty and would like FAPAC to review your case to ensure your rights are being respected, please contact us and we will advocate for you.
We have been foster and adoptive parents in D.C. for several years, and have always found the information and services offered by FAPAC to be helpful. Recently, we also reached out to FAPAC with a specific advocacy request to help our child continue receiving services when CFSA switched service providers. Their staff helped us interface with CFSA and another DC government agency to get things moving, and we were able to apply for additional resources to ensure that our child could continue receiving services. We are grateful for FAPAC’s support and assistance.
Systemic Advocacy
Our systemic advocacy agenda is framed by the real and current experiences of our families as well as our own expertise. Utilizing our model that links advocacy and partnership, our systemic work includes advocacy for policies, practices and legislation that will improve the lives of our children and families. See our advocacy priorities below.
Current Advocacy Priorities
- Foster parent inclusion
- Support for youth aging out of foster care
- Inclusion of Maryland foster parents
