Christmas for Kids in Foster Care
Each December, FAPAC hosts a holiday event for several hundred children and families in foster care who have been separated from their siblings. During this heartfelt reunification event, every child who attends receives a gift and enjoys reconnecting with siblings through fun activities, games, and a great meal.
As a volunteer, you will help setup and stage the event, pick gifts for a child and wrap them, help children find their presents, and lead fun activities with them! Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate and complete the registration form. Corporate groups, individuals, and families are welcome to volunteer!
Mentor a Teen
Teenagers in DC foster care are invited to join us each year for this amazing learning and fun experience. During the event, youth will gain valuable insight into topics such as career tracks, financial management, self-care, and housing information after they exit foster care. Youth will connect with their peers, amazing speakers, and enjoy fun games and prizes.
As a volunteer, you will help teens identify strengths, set realistic goals, explore education and training options, and navigate practical steps like resumes, interviews, internships, and workplace expectations. Mentors must participate in supporting teens for just one day at the Summit from 9am to 5pm, and are encouraged to extend their mentoring relationship to provide continued support as teens pursue and reach their career goals for one year. Mentors must be willing to complete a background check and check in with the volunteer coordinator at least once per month.
Gala for Foster Care
Volunteers at the Annual Gala for Foster Care, held each May, play an important role in creating a welcoming and memorable experience for guests. Volunteer responsibilities include event setup and breakdown, greeting and assisting attendees, and helping maintain an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the evening. In appreciation for their support, volunteers receive complimentary admission to the gala. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and dressed in appropriate gala attire.
