We asked Lashaya Gray a few questions to get to know her better.
What is your title at FAPAC and what will you be doing?
My title is Intern at FAPAC. During my time at FAPAC, I will be developing a caregiver education program focused on promoting self-esteem and emotional well-being in foster, kinship and adopted children. My role will include collaborating with families, and staff to facilitate educational sessions and provide practical tools and activities for families, and reviewing program outcomes to support parent confidence and strengthen parent–child relationships.
What did you do before FAPAC?
Before coming to FAPAC, I was completing an internship at a skilled nursing facility, and served as a pediatric fellow student, allowing me to further develop my skills working with children and families, which confirmed my passion for working with children and supporting their emotional and developmental needs.
What do you hope to contribute to the DC foster care system?
I hope to contribute compassion, creativity, and strategies that support both families and children involved in the DC foster care system. I also hope that my work contributes to and achieves positive long-term outcomes for children and families.
What motivates you?
Finding new ways to make a meaningful and positive impact in others’ lives always motivates me, especially in the lives of youth. Seeing individuals feel supported and empowered is what drives my passion.
What do you do for fun?
For fun, I enjoy roller skating, taking nature walks, dancing and engaging in creative activities finding new ways to design something, whether it’s through art or hands-on projects.
