About the Resource Parent Mentoring Program

What is the Resource Parent Mentoring Program?
FAPAC will recruit and train 17 resource parents who will serve as mentors to new incoming resource parents. Each mentor will provide 100 hours of mentoring during the program year, to 1-4 mentees. Mentors will receive a monthly stipend for mentoring, not to exceed $1,000 per year. Mentors will be considered AmeriCorps members and their contributions is voluntary and not considered employment. Our goal is to help onboard new resource parents and build a stronger and more knowledgeable community of care givers.

How do I apply to become a mentor?

How do I mentor?
Mentoring can occur in person, over the phone, or through other means of communication.

When does the program begin and end?
The program begins January and ends in August each year

What is the training process?
An in-person training will occur in January or soon after, which will cover how to report hours, topics to discuss with mentors and best practices of mentoring.

Do I get paid for being a mentor?
You will receive a monthly stipend for participating, which is not considered income and will not interfere with your reported wages for tax purposes.

How many hours of mentoring must I provide?
Our goal is that you provide 100 hours of mentoring 1-4 people, total.

When will I know if I’ve been selected to be a mentor?
You will receive communication from the Volunteer Manager soon after completing the form.

What are my responsibilities as a mentor?

  • Build a relationship with 1-4 mentees
  • Meet with mentees weekly
  • Attending training in January or February
  • Report your mentoring hours to FAPAC
  • Commit to mentoring from January to August

What are the requirements?

  • Must be a currently licensed resource parent, OR exited not more than 2 years ago
  • Have had at least 2 children in your care in the past
  • Pass a background check
  • Attend the in-person training
