The federally-funded Adoption Scholarship Program is available to DC residents who have been adopted through the DC Foster Care system and/or children who lost one or both parents in the September 11 terrorist attacks. You need a copy of an adoption decree or death certificate of a parent to verify that you are eligible for this benefit. Recipients of this scholarship may receive up to $10,000 per year with a $40,000 lifetime maximum award for their post-secondary education. Eligible applicants must be 24 years of age or younger; have a HS diploma or GED; be accepted in an eligible post-secondary institution; and either be adopted from the DC Foster Care system after October 1, 2001, OR must submit documentation of their parent(s) death in the events of September 11.
